Reds Target Bilbao forward

Reds make early Iker Muniain summer transfer approach amid contract delay.

LIVERPOOL are looking to take advantage of Iker Muniain’s contract uncertainty with Athletic Bilbao with the view of signing the forward on a free transfer in the summer. According to newspaper outlet in Spain.

The winger’s development has been disrupted by long-term ligament injuries which he has suffered in recent years having emerged as one of La Liga’s most highly-rated youngsters almost 10 years ago.

Still only 25, Muniain has four goals in nine La Liga appearances for Bilbao this term and even captained the Basque outfit in a draw against Eibar earlier this month.

But the Spain international’s current contract expires in June and that has seen potential suitors begin to circle.

According to Marca via Sport Witness, both Liverpool and Serie A side Napoli have already made offers to Muniain.

Muniain remains an important member of the Bilbao squad having scored 51 goals and provided 35 assists in 357 first-team appearances for the club.

It is said that the attacker might prefer to stay at the San Mames Stadium, where he has played his entire career having joined Los Leones at the age of 12 in 2005.

He made his debut aged just 16 and remains the youngest player ever to play for Athletic with the club still sticking to their policy of only signing players from the Basque region.

Yet he would be an attractive option to Jurgen Klopp’s side given his versatility. Muniain is capable of playing anywhere across the front three and could be a useful back up to Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane out wide in particular.

While Xherdan Shaqiri has impressed for Liverpool since joining from Stoke City in the summer, the Swiss international has generally performed best in an advanced No 10 role in midfield.

And with Shaqiri the first-choice deputy to Salah on the right wing, Liverpool do not have a natural backup for Mane on the left.

Jurgen Klopp has already made his move for Muniain, according to reports

Harry Wilson has emerged as another possible long-term option out wide for Klopp, but it is not yet known whether the Welshman – who can also play left, right or as an attacking midfielder – will be trusted with senior responsibilities at Anfield.

That’s with the 21-year-old currently impressing on loan at Frank Lampard’s Derby County in the Championship, providing three goals and two assists so far in 12 league and cup outings.

Liverpool boss Klopp wanted to sign a No 10 in the summer with a move for Lyon captain Nabil Fekir falling through on the eve of the World Cup due to concerns over the Frenchman’s injury history.

And he could see Muniain as another play-making option alongside Shaqiri as Liverpool look to build on their progress under the German manager with silverware.

Liverpool currently sit second in the Premier League only behind reigning champions Manchester City on goal difference having gone unbeaten in their first 10 games.

Belgian Shot Stopper To Stay At Liverpool Until Summer

It has been revealed that Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet will stay at Anfield for the rest of the season.

This is according to renowned media outlet ESPN.

It was revealed that the Belgian international goalkeeper won’t be granted his desire to leave the club during the ongoing January transfer window.

The former Sunderland star wanted to leave the club last summer but the move was blocked by the club.

French Ligue 1 side Nice are long-term admirers of the Belgian shot stopper and could make a move for him if he’s available for a transfer.

Simon Mignolet has fallen out of favour at Liverpool following the arrival of Brazilian national team star Alisson Becker from Italian Serie A giants AS Roma.

Alisson joined the Reds in a then world record fee for a goalkeeper.

Liverpool paid £67m for his transfer only for Spanish goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga to break that record days later with his £71m transfer to Chelsea from La Liga club Athletic Bilbao.

Mignolet played second fiddle to the Reds’ first choice goalkeeper Loris Karius last season and he has retained the same position in the present campaign despite the loan exit of Karius to Turkish giants Beskitas.

Alisson is the undisputed first choice goalkeeper at Liverpool this season.
