Reds Target Bilbao forward

Reds Target Bilbao forward

Reds make early Iker Muniain summer transfer approach amid contract delay.

LIVERPOOL are looking to take advantage of Iker Muniain’s contract uncertainty with Athletic Bilbao with the view of signing the forward on a free transfer in the summer. According to newspaper outlet in Spain.

The winger’s development has been disrupted by long-term ligament injuries which he has suffered in recent years having emerged as one of La Liga’s most highly-rated youngsters almost 10 years ago.

Still only 25, Muniain has four goals in nine La Liga appearances for Bilbao this term and even captained the Basque outfit in a draw against Eibar earlier this month.

But the Spain international’s current contract expires in June and that has seen potential suitors begin to circle.

According to Marca via Sport Witness, both Liverpool and Serie A side Napoli have already made offers to Muniain.

Muniain remains an important member of the Bilbao squad having scored 51 goals and provided 35 assists in 357 first-team appearances for the club.

It is said that the attacker might prefer to stay at the San Mames Stadium, where he has played his entire career having joined Los Leones at the age of 12 in 2005.

He made his debut aged just 16 and remains the youngest player ever to play for Athletic with the club still sticking to their policy of only signing players from the Basque region.

Yet he would be an attractive option to Jurgen Klopp’s side given his versatility. Muniain is capable of playing anywhere across the front three and could be a useful back up to Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane out wide in particular.

While Xherdan Shaqiri has impressed for Liverpool since joining from Stoke City in the summer, the Swiss international has generally performed best in an advanced No 10 role in midfield.

And with Shaqiri the first-choice deputy to Salah on the right wing, Liverpool do not have a natural backup for Mane on the left.

Jurgen Klopp has already made his move for Muniain, according to reports

Harry Wilson has emerged as another possible long-term option out wide for Klopp, but it is not yet known whether the Welshman – who can also play left, right or as an attacking midfielder – will be trusted with senior responsibilities at Anfield.

That’s with the 21-year-old currently impressing on loan at Frank Lampard’s Derby County in the Championship, providing three goals and two assists so far in 12 league and cup outings.

Liverpool boss Klopp wanted to sign a No 10 in the summer with a move for Lyon captain Nabil Fekir falling through on the eve of the World Cup due to concerns over the Frenchman’s injury history.

And he could see Muniain as another play-making option alongside Shaqiri as Liverpool look to build on their progress under the German manager with silverware.

Liverpool currently sit second in the Premier League only behind reigning champions Manchester City on goal difference having gone unbeaten in their first 10 games.

Liverpool Eyeing Summer Move For Napoli Midfielder

Premier League title contenders Liverpool are reportedly plotting a summer move for Napoli midfielder Piotr Zelinski.

The 24-year-old has previously been linked with a move to Liverpool.

According to the publication from Calciomercato, the Polish international player is back on the radar of the Merseyside club despite recent reports which revealed that Napoli are close to signing him on a new contract at the club.

Zelinski was recently part of the Polish team that crashed out of last summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.

Poland and Piotr Zelinski finished bottom of Group F at the tournament behind Senegal, Japan and group leaders Colombia.

Piotr Zelinski came close to joining Liverpool in 2016 only for him to sign for Napoli from fellow Italian Serie A club Udinese.

He has grown to become an important player for Napoli since his move to the club.

The 24-year-old has scored four goals in 26 league appearances to propel them into the top two spots on the Italian Serie A table.

In total, Piotr Zelinski has scored five goals in 36 games in all competitions.

The Liverpool midfield has been heavily criticised for lack of goals and the signing of Zelinski would go a long way to add cutting edge and ruthlessness to the Reds’ midfield.

Liverpool Defender Named On Barcelona Transfer Shortlist For Left-backs

Liverpool star Alberto Moreno is on a three-man transfer shortlist at Barcelona who are in the market for a new left-sided defender.

Barcelona want to sign a backup for first choice left-back Jordi Alba and they have drawn up a list of three players as a result.

Spanish media outlet Sport claim that the three-man shortlist includes Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno, Arsenal star Nacho Monreal and Atletico Madrid defender Filipe Luis.

Jordi Alba is the undisputed first choice at left-back and the Spaniard recently signed a new five-year contract at the club to further highlight his importance in the Barcelona setup.

Jordi Alba could face the threat of Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno for a spot at left-back next season.

Spanish international left-back Moreno has been heavily linked with Barcelona in the past.

His Liverpool contract will run out this summer and the player is not willing to extend his stay at Anfield.

Alberto Moreno joined Liverpool in the summer of 2014 in a deal worth £12m after helping Spanish La Liga club Sevilla to the Europa League title under manager Unai Emery.

He has not been able to secure a spot in the Liverpool team in recent seasons due to the emergence of first choice left-back Andy Robertson.

Liverpool Chief Gives Big Update On Transfers

Liverpool director Billy Hogan has provided a big transfer update that will be music to the ears of the Reds’ faithful.

Billy Hogan is the managing director at Liverpool and he has revealed that manager Jurgen Klopp will have money to spend when the transfer window reopens.

This is coming on the back of recent reports that Liverpool manager might not be able to strengthen his team adequately due to the planned development on their Stadium.

Billy Hogan allayed those fears in his recent interview with fcbusiness as he confirmed that funds will be made available for the Liverpool manager amidst the Stadium renovation plans.

Earlier this month, Liverpool posted pre-tax profits of £125m for the last financial year and it took into account the £75m signing of Dutch international centre back Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton and the £142m transfer of Philippe Coutinho to Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona.

Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool spent the most money during last summer’s transfer window.

The Reds spent £173m on transfers last summer following the acquisition of Naby Keita and Fabinho from RB Leipzig and AS Monaco respectively.

Liverpool also signed Swiss international Xerdan Shaqiri from Stoke City while Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker joined the club from AS Roma.
