Firmino leaves it late to hand Liverpool a winning start in a 5-goal Champions League thriller

Liverpool has to wait for Roberto Firmino to leave the bench to help them get off to a winning start in the Champions League in what was an exciting match TL watch on day one of the Champions League this season.

Firminho didn’t start the match due to an eye injury sustained during the weekend so Daniel Sturridge started the match instead.

Sturridge immediately made an impact, scoring the opening goal 30 minuted into the game after connecting with a brilliant cross by Andy Robertson.

James Milner doubled from the penalty spot six minutes later when Georginio Wijnaldum was brought down in the box, but Thomas Meunier pulled one back to give PSG a lifeline before halftime, with a sublime finish from a cross.

Star striker, Mo Salah had a goal disallowed due to a Sturridge foul on the goalkeeper, but Sturridge himself should have put the ball in the net.

He also missed a free header moments after.

Sturridge was then substituted, giving way to Firmino in the final minutes and the stadium was fires up when Kylian Mbappe scored the equalizer.

Firminho left it very late to make an impact before scoring the goal that closed the game and handed the Reds a much needed win to kick start their Champions League campaign.

Belgian Shot Stopper To Stay At Liverpool Until Summer

It has been revealed that Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet will stay at Anfield for the rest of the season.

This is according to renowned media outlet ESPN.

It was revealed that the Belgian international goalkeeper won’t be granted his desire to leave the club during the ongoing January transfer window.

The former Sunderland star wanted to leave the club last summer but the move was blocked by the club.

French Ligue 1 side Nice are long-term admirers of the Belgian shot stopper and could make a move for him if he’s available for a transfer.

Simon Mignolet has fallen out of favour at Liverpool following the arrival of Brazilian national team star Alisson Becker from Italian Serie A giants AS Roma.

Alisson joined the Reds in a then world record fee for a goalkeeper.

Liverpool paid £67m for his transfer only for Spanish goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga to break that record days later with his £71m transfer to Chelsea from La Liga club Athletic Bilbao.

Mignolet played second fiddle to the Reds’ first choice goalkeeper Loris Karius last season and he has retained the same position in the present campaign despite the loan exit of Karius to Turkish giants Beskitas.

Alisson is the undisputed first choice goalkeeper at Liverpool this season.
