Liverpool and United new signings set for National team start

Brazil came back to the Red Bull Arena on Wednesday for their final training session in New Jersey before Brazil Global Tour encounter with the United States scheduled for Friday.

And coach Tite, this week has announced his starting eleven, which included Fabinho of Liverpool and Fred of Manchester United.

For first 20 minutes the media were allowed to stay, but were asked not to report what they covered during the rest of the training session.

Tite then distributed the bibs to disclose his first team, confirming that his side will be made up of the majority of the first team that participated in the World Cup.

Filipe Luis, Marquinhos, Douglas Costa and Roberto Firmino, all part of the second team in Russia, were also handed a chance by the coach.

Fabinho is the only member of the first team who was not part of the Brazilian World Cup team and will replace the injured Fagner at the right back position.

Marquinhos will join Thiago Silva in the heart of the defense, replacing Inter defender, Miranda, who was not called to the team this month.

Douglas Costa will feature on the right instead of Willian, while Fred replaces Paulinho, who was also omitted from the group this month, in a three-man midfield with Casemiro and Philippe Coutinho.

Gabriel Jesus, the first team center forward in the World Cup, was also left out of the team and will be replaced by Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino.

Two Players Man United Should Sign In January Transfer Window

Published

on

Toby Alderweireld

The best review brand can confirm that Jose Mourinho faces the upheaval task of catching up with the table toppers of the League as they stand the risk of not qualifying for the Champions League next season unless they improve.

Out of a possible 27 points, United have amassed only 14 in the Premier League, a very poor start by every standard of the club. The Red Devils translated their poor form to the Champion League and lost in a subdued performance to Juventus at the Fortress of Old Trafford.

Although Jose Mourinho has spent heavily in the past transfer windows, the last was not an exception, totalling £387 million expenditure in transfers since his 2016 arrival. However, the Portuguese boss has blamed the inability of his squad to compete favourably with other elite clubs on the dearth of transfer activities, according to MEN.

“To go to the Juventus level? Barcelona level? Real Madrid level? How can you reach that level? Manchester City level? How can you reach this level?” he pondered after the draw against Juve.

A reply came. “Investment?”

“Yes,” Mourinho said.

“Juventus is champions for seven years, I think seven years in a row,” Mourinho told a news conference. “Two Champions League finals in the last four or five years and not happy with what they have.

“They want more, they want more. They had [Gonzalo] Higuain, [Mario] Mandzukic, [Paulo] Dybala, they want more. They want Ronaldo. They had [Andrea] Barzagli, [Giorgio] Chiellini, [Danieli] Rugani, they are not happy, they want more. They want Bonucci and they go for the best players in the world.”

Knowing well that to get quality players in the January transfer window requires a bit of luck, we take a brief swipe at two players that Man United can side to make them formidable in January.

Hirving Lozano

Arguably the best player in the Dutch League at the moment, Lozano was plucked by PSV Eindhoven from Pachuca in the summer of last year – ever since the Mexican has seen his stock steadily increasing.

He can play from any of the wing forward position and behind the striker – his ability to dribble and score makes him a potent force against opponent. The 23-year-old star will not just be an option but a probable replacement for Alexis Sanchez.

Toby Alderweireld

United are not short of defensive options in their squad but Jose Mourinho is wary of their ability to keep things tidy at the back. Eric Bailly, Phil Jones have demonstrated poor form, leading United to a search for a more study and reliable centre-back.

Alderweireld is in the final year of his contract with Tottenham. Although they have the option to extend by a deal, it will trigger a 25million release clause.

The aforementioned Belgian will add steelness and leadership to the Red Devils, a trait that is currently missing at the fortress of Old Trafford.

Money to be Made?

Whether United will be able to turn their season around and actually compete for a Champions League place this season remains to be seen. You hardly have to be a master of the basics of sports betting to know that the current odds to win the Premier League (+8000) aren’t exactly favorable. That said, perhaps Jose Mourinho’s men can use their stunning 2-1 Champions League victory at Juventus as a springboard moving forward.

Lozano and Alderweireld would be helpful additions, but there is a very real chance that United has already dug itself into too deep a hole. With so many teams already well ahead of them in the league table, betting on the Red Devils to surge all the way back to the top this season would be a fool’s errand.

Benitez predicts clubs that will challenge for EPL title

Newcastle coach Rafael Benítez has described Chelsea as one of the most challenging teams for the Premier League title at the end of the season.

The Spanish team hosts the Blues at St James’ Park on Sunday and distrusts the quality they possess.

In fact, Benítez, who won the Europa League as Chelsea boss in 2013, sees Maurizio Sarri’s men as one of the three favorites for the crown.

Maybe at the moment, there are three teams that I could say they are a bit ahead of the others. For me, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City, for their quality, last year’s performances and the money they spent, he said.

Then Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal, they have to go back to the things they were doing well, they have quality in the squad and they can compete, for sure.
But if you have to choose three, I’ll choose these, they have enough quality to do it right.

Benitez and Sarri have history, with Sarri replacing the now Newcastle boss in 2015.

Leon Balogun plays first EPL match as Brighton Beats United

The Nigerian international defender made his first competitive appearance for the seagulls after his move to the premier league team.

Brighton coach Chris Hughton started with his favorite center halves Shane Duffy and Lewis Dunk against united but the latter was forced to leave in the 20th minute, while the game was still goalless. Dunk suffered an injury, which allowed the former Mainz 05 defender to finally make his premier league debut.

The full attack began just five minutes after balogun came into the field forcing the Red Devils defense to concede three goals through striker Glenn Murray, Duffy, and Gross wrapping it up with a penalty, Romelu Lukaku grabbed a goal back for United but it would not be enough.

The visitors tried to get back in the game with Paul Pogba reduced the deficit as he scored from the penalty spot but that was barely enough as Brighton secured their first 3 points of the 2018/19 premier league campaign.

Balogun joined Brighton this summer before going to the World Cup in Russia, and participated in preseason activities after Nigeria exited in the group stage.
